So, I'm assuming that something I installed for the website I identified above either changed the OS or I need to add some additional software so that the screensaver works correctly. Also, none of the set of command line functionality using the keyboard work. The screen saver will remain static for a few seconds then jump ahead in time and remain static for a few seconds and jumps ahead in time and it repeats. However, when I start the sphere screen saver it doesn't function properly, When I click on Show Graphics the sphere appears BUT it doesn't rotate continuously as it should. I am able to start by downloading packets and Boinc happily goes about processing them. I also am able to run the Boinc manager and add my account to the manager.
#BOINC LINUX INSTALL#
I need to add the following to my original post.Īfter adding some additional software to my Ubuntu 21.04 from website I was able to install Boinc client and manager. That file is a lock file to prevent 2 copies of the manager to run at once but it can get left behind occasionally. Is it Boinc manager that will not run or the client? If it is the manager then look in you home directory for a 5 byte file called Boinc-Manager-xxxxx, if it is there delete it and retry. I am not sure if it did install as a service. I am stumped because BOINC was working fine on this computer Hp laptop running Linux Ubuntu 20.04. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. It reports the following error message: Failed to Change to directory var/lib/boinc-client (Permission denied) The icon shows up in the Menu but fails to launch. It returned a partial error message during installation and finished. At that time BOINC failed to launch, I then had no luck at fully installing BOINC without receiving an error message.

Server connection (sensitive data is blackened) Some Linux distributions (Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, possibly others) have BOINC installation packages. I recommend to use a VPS from or where VPS including 1024 Mb starts at $5 a month. The VPS needs to have at least one core and 512 Mb Ram. If you have already a VPS then skip this step.
